(Two of my favorite Mortys came from this contraption). Each coupon gets you four items and one new Morty. Since Pocket Mortys was free and it was generally enjoyable I did not mind going to this machine occasionally and seeing what type of prizes I would receive. Step up to a Blips and Chitz machine and you can unlock all kinds of prizes with cash, or one of the Blips and Chitz coupons you find or win in-game. Luckily the game designers took that into account and made it so that you are able to access the store from your menu, where you can use your hard-won Shmeckles to buy healing items and keep your team in tip top shape.īeing stuck on a map doesn’t seem like much of a difference from the standard Pocket Monster formula, but I found myself quickly running out of Shmeckles and decided to give the freemium side of this game a whirl early on. The only way to access that is to be at the central hub world, so any healing you need while in the field has to come from items. For instance, once you are teleported to a different dimension you can wander around and fight other trainers as well as the Boss but there are no healing centers. There are a few more things that Pocket Mortys does differently from its namesake. The game also features a number of attacks to increase or decrease the stats of the Mortys but lacks any sort of attacks involving status conditions. The Morty you start the game with actually has no type, making him both immune to extra type based damage as well as unable to deal any. There are 82 different types of Mortys that can be acquired in the game, each with a different type, Rock, Paper, or Scissors. There are six in total and each time you defeat one it’s back to the grind to get more badges. Once you beat the Boss you get a badge and some loot, and when you get enough Badges you can take on a member of the Council of Ricks, this game’s Elite Four stand in. As the Rick from the show, you go around various maps challenging other characters to battle the Mortys that you have caught so that you can level them up and eventually take on the Boss of that world. It has all of the classic genre defining characteristics that make actual Pokémon so great, all somewhat simplified. It turns out that Pocket Mortys is pretty solid. While keeping all of that in mind one question remains, is the game good? Pocket Mortys is literally one part Pokémon and one part Rick and Morty and if you are looking for anything else here you are not likely to find it. (I started playing a long time ago and quit until relatively recently, so its all "old" Mortys.) The Old One and Telekinetic aren't as "good" as the other ones in theory, but in pracice they have great stats. This is the major issue that licensed games run into: they are primarily created to cash in on the success of whatever property they are based on and it is, therefore, difficult for them to appeal to anyone who is not already a fan. I think my active Mortys include 3 One True, Hammerhead, 2 Wasteland, Mortaion, Telekinetic, Old One, Wild Mascot, Mascot, 2 Headism and 2 Cronenberg.with a Giant Arm as a backup Paper-type. Hunter and SEAL Morty look pretty good too, Ball Drop, Froopy Land and Poorly Cloned are also in the top tier. Paper-types, you'll be looking for a Forbidden Morty, Mascot (One I roll with) or Grinder Morty are the Honorable Mentions, but you can't go wrong with Funny, Specs, Box, Big Tongue, Ant in My Eyes, or Wild Mascot (Another one of mine)įor Scissor action, look to The Pale Morty, Honorable Mention goes to (my own) Mortaion Morty. (Aside from Xmas Present Morty) Mortox is an Honorable Mention, there are many fine Rock-type Exotics.Friendly, Snowman, Bartendter, Soccer Ball, VR, Pancake, Headless, Hammerhead (One I use myself). Obvisously "The One True Morty" is a standout as best Rock Morty. Just going by point totals, without examining the moves, since I don't know many of the newer Mortys.Ĭronenberg Morty is the best "neutral" Morty by far.
